Nokia has recently lunched its very first Windows based phone Smartphone, the Lumia 800 by Nokia in November, 2011, and this initial Windows phone has been launched in the United Sates, and it eventually appears that Nokia has been able to dominate the second generation Windows Phone devices.

Nokia’s Success

Nokia has been able to come across some excellent initial success from its evolutions to exclusively supporting the Windows Phone platform for its high-end devices. The initial sales of Nokia’s first two Windows Phones both Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 are prone to perched approximately 1.3 million units. This particular data however is not fully verified as yet, but for these two smart phones that were launched back in 2011, November, this is certainly not bad. In addition, the fact is that the Windows Phone is not much sought-after or renowned operating system as yet, and the as Nokia has only launched its very first devices in the region on the United States few weeks ago, and the figures are all pretty much extraordinary.

Occasional Gamer Report

As per a report published by Occasional Gamer, now Nokia has been able to acquire approximately 45% of the entire second generation Windows Phone device market. This particular data is basically an estimation whereas the entity has more than one million game installs on the Windows Phone based platform, therefore it should be very much precise, HTC stands at second place with approximately 40% of the entire Smartphone market share, and Samsung stands third with capturing just 12% of the entire market share.

Devices Launched by Nokia

As a matter of fact, Nokia has just launched its very first Windows Phone 7 Smartphone last year in November, 2011, the figure and the market share it acquires seems exceedingly impressive, and it has been suggested by the industry tech experts that Nokia may also end up being the leading and primary Windows Phone handset manufacturer in the near future.

Rivals!

The Nokia OS rivals’ mainly include iOS and Android. In case Nokia was really able to sell 1.3 million units of its Windows Based Phone in the very first round, its metaphor may be pertinent. If we consider the entire Smartphone market as a warzone, then Nokia may as a matter of fact be moving into an appropriate position. It will not outset Android anytime soon, but the tide perhaps be turning for the stressed and under pressure Finnish maker.

Once it happens, it would be truly amazing to see how accepted and popular Nokia is going to be when it comes to the Smartphone’s industry, and not only Windows Phone devices over the period of next twelve months, furthermore, it has been anticipated that Microsoft and Nokia will become partners and it is certainly going to be a successful venture.

Conference calling is becoming increasingly popular in the modern business world. It is a fantastic tool for easy communication between employees and external partners and clients and something that is beginning to take advantage of the ever-advancing world of technology. Conference call applications are now in abundance for smartphones and iPhones around the world, so it has never been easier to hold or join a conference to maintain smooth business.

Image provided courtesy of Andres Rueda via flickr creative commons

Companies like PowWowNow and PGi have brought such conference call apps to the world and they are available in the Android Market and the iTunes Store. It is easier than ever to schedule audio conference calls in the palm of your hand. You can arrange it, invite people and send out reminders before the call and add people and put them on hold during the call. You can even choose the music that plays when they are on hold. The audio calls are completely free and, what’s more, you can record the calls you make.

Another wonderful application is Skype, which is also entirely free if every participant in the call has it installed on their device. Group calls are so easy on Skype that you can start them with just one touch – it has a feature whereby you can arrange your contacts into groups and call them collectively with the ‘Call Group’ function.

This function is unfortunately not included in the free version of Skype, but there is a variety of passes available to buy for every kind of business need. If you only require group conference calling for a single day, then there is the day pass at £2.99; 1 month will cost you £4.99, while 3 month and 12 month subscriptions will cost you £4.49 and £3.74 per month respectively.

The PGi app is free to business customers of the company and, again, has the function to record conference calls so you never miss that all important point – gone are the days of scribbling down minutes of every meeting.

Technology is always improving and business is always looking for new ways to incorporate technology to make operations much smoother, which can only mean one thing: conference calling is only going to get better, more efficient and easier to use. The standard is pretty high at the moment, so it will be difficult to make things any easier than they already are with the conference call apps mentioned above.

So, the first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone has just been announced, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Tasty.

Let’s start with the specifications: the Galaxy Nexus packs a dual-core 1.2 GHx Texus Instruments OMAP4460 processor. A mouthful indeed, but it basically means it’s as fast as the Galaxy S2. It comes equipped with 1GB of system memory, double the amount you’ll find in an iPhone 4S. The phone shoots 1080p video and has a five-mega-pixel rear camera with an LED flash, but shutter lag’s now a thing of the past. Your picture just saves instantly, enabling you to carry on snapping.

What of its display? Effortlessly chic. The buttonless screen creates an edge-to-edge tablet, which you’ll easily get used to it once it’s nestled in the palm of your hand. It’s a whopping 4.65 inch Super AMOLED, boasting 720p resolution: not quite large enough to put you off carrying it around in your shirt pocket. At just 8.84mm thick, it has a beautifully contoured feel.

Now for the main attraction: Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0. Not to worry, it’ll be coming to other high-end Android handsets soon, but for now let’s start with a taste test. Head of Nexus user experience, Matias Duarte, has described it as the handset’s soul. OK, so you’re probably thinking ‘This is weird.’ But Duarte began by looking at other companies in a bid to create the perfect companion. Apple’s iOS uses cartoonish realism: there are leather edges on the calendar, while book stores look like childish imitations. Windows Phone 7, on the other hand, is stark – for Duarte, it’s something like ‘airport lavatory signage.’

So what is the Galaxy Nexus’ interface actually like?

Well, it’s futuristic. It has something of Apple, and a little of Microsoft. It’s friendly, but not cartoonish; it’s modern, but doesn’t feel cold. It’s a big step for Google to follow in the aesthetic trail of others, whilst maintaining its focus on data over design. The result is something brilliant though, as near to a phone with soul as possible.

Face recognition will unlock the phone’s screen; you simply smile to make it turn on. The phone will respond to whatever you ask it to do by recognising the tone of your voice. It will transport music, pictures and videos back and forth, just by holding it against one of its friends. Friends? OK, that should read other Galaxy Nexuses.

In all seriousness though, the design is stunning and the spec impressive. With the Android 4.0 operating system to boot, the Galaxy Nexus is on the money.

Speaking of price, it’s probably worth mentioning, at this juncture, how much the Nexus will cost. Some retailers have quoted a Galaxy Nexus contract price of £46 a month if you want to get your hands on the handset for free. The good news is that aficionados need only wait till November for this treat to make it into their stocking – better hope your name’s not on the ‘naughty’ list.

For years, Blackberry has been the standard go-to for business email and messaging, and mainly because of its Blackberry Messenger application. However, Apple just recently decided to throw its own messenger app contender into the ring, and iMessenger will soon go head-to-head with Blackberry Messenger in a battle that should end all battles . . . that is, until the next new thing comes along. If your smart phone serves first and foremost as your instant messaging service, then you may find your ears perking up at the sound of Apple’s iMessenger, even if you’re currently happy with your Blackberry. That’s because Apple has a reputation for providing the latest and greatest technology available. Does the new iMessenger app live up to all the Apple hype? Read for yourself and see what you think.

Third party apps. Apple’s iMessenger can be replaced with other third party apps like DropBox and What’s App Messenger, as these apps are both available in the iPhone apps store and compatible with even broader platforms. Blackberry’s Messenger, on the other hand, cannot be replaced by any third-party app, and is therefore unique to Blackberry and invaluable. In this case, nothing can outshine Blackberry Messenger.

User interface. The Blackberry Messenger interface is altogether separate from its SMS (text messaging) service interface. This means you must be using either one or the other screen at a time, and cannot access both messenger and SMS correspondence at the same time. Apple’s iMessenger offers a user-friendly solution to this problem by integrating the iMessenger interface with the Messages app and differentiating the two message types with color-coding. Apple’s win.

IFRAME Embed for Youtube

Usage and device compatibility. Using iMessenger, it is possible to send your instant messages to any iDevice, meaning you can start a conversation on one mobile device, then pick the conversation up where you left off on another mobile device; it’s all integrated. Blackberry’s Messenger just can’t do that, as this service uses the unique PIN of each mobile device to send and receive instant messages. In this case, iMessenger has the advantage.

Data plan. One of the things that has always made Blackberry’s Messenger service the industry standout is the fact that its NOC/node infrastructure makes it possible for users to send Blackberry-to-Blackberry instant messages without the need for a data plan. So far, Apple has yet to provide its customers with a comparable solution. Therefore, in this category, Blackberry Messenger is the clear standout.

Now that you’ve seen a breakdown comparison between the iMessenger and the Blackberry Messenger apps, it may be a bit easier for you to decide which is for you – or it may be a bit harder. It seems that each has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Your best bet is to decide which is best for you, and to ask about your phone retailer’s return policy, just in case.

When it comes to buying smartphones, the choice is growing all the time. What were once luxury handsets for the tech elite now come in all shapes and sizes, as well as price tags. So where do you start when you’re looking for your perfect smartphone?

Coverage

First, you’ll want to make sure you can get good coverage from all the providers in the key areas you’ll be using your mobile. This way you won’t find a great smartphone deal, only to find later that you can’t use it when you need to! Each mobile provider will have a coverage map, so first use these to narrow down your choices.

Contract or prepay?

You’ll also need to decide if you want a contract or a prepay deal. Smartphones can be pretty pricey, so you may want to go for a contract as they tend to cover a large part of the initial cost of the handset. This will mean you pay slightly more per month, and may have to sign up for a long deal. But you will be rewarded with a nicer handset.

Prepay is great if you have the money up front for the handset, as it will give you the flexibility to get credit when you need it and only spend what you pay for. However, you may end up paying more per minute for your lack of loyalty! You may also find short-term monthly contracts, which can act as a nice middle ground.

Price and your allowances

Whichever way you go, think carefully about you’ll be using your smartphone. Make sure you get a deal that gives you enough minutes and texts, but not so many that you’ll have loads left at the end of the month – they won’t roll over to the next one.

Also, think carefully about data. You need to have enough to get you online, but again it’s easy to pay for way more than you need. But at all times balance what you really need versus what you want, as it could make a big difference to the price you pay! You can save a lot by simply reining your usage in a little and remember – you can always up your monthly tariff, but it might not be so easy to lower it if you’ve got a deal with a free phone.

Handset choices

While the latest smartphones are of course the most desirable ones, you need to make sure you’re paying for something you’ll actually be using to its fully potential. There’s no point in getting a smartphone with an eight-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual flash if you’re only going to take a couple of snaps with it each year. Or get a handset with a dual-core processor, massive screen and oodles of internal memory if you’re not going to watch movies or multitask with complex apps.

If you decide on a slightly cheaper option, remember that last year’s hero handsets will now be at a price point comparable to this year’s budget smartphones. Those older phones may well be built with better components and have already proven how good they are (just check out some reviews), so will often be a better bet than this year’s cheap model.

Which Mobile Operating systems?

This can be an important decision, with four real contenders right now. But that said all the options out there right now are pretty good. Apple iPhones are very popular, but can be pretty pricey. A BlackBerry is great for business, as well as messaging, but can be a little weak on apps.

Then you have the Android and Windows 7 operating systems, which are available on handsets from a number of big handset manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG and Sony Ericsson. Android handsets are hugely popular right now, being user friendly with plenty of apps available.

Extras

Finally, when you’ve decided on a handset and tariff range, take a good search around a comparison website to check out who has the best deals for that handset or provider (or both). It’s a really competitive market, with price battles going on all the time that throw up all kinds of bargains. You may find you can get a certain amount of your smartphone tariff for free, or even free gifts such as an MP3 player or high street vouchers.

Chris Marling writes on behalf of Broadband Genie, the comparison website for broadband, tablets and smartphones, such as the the new iPhone 5.

Samsung has recently launched a new naming convention for its Galaxy handsets. The S series will always be the latest flagship with the recently announced Galaxy R just a short step behind. In the midrange is the Galaxy M (obviously) with the lower end Galaxy Y phones aimed at younger generations. There will also be “Pro” and “Plus” suffixes to indicate physical keyboards and slight tweaks of earlier models respectively.

In between the Galaxy R and Galaxy M ranges though, is to be the Galaxy W series. The Galaxy W will be a high end device, offering more features and power than the midrange M but not quite as jaw dropping as the Galaxy S or Galaxy R. While the Galaxy W certainly has some impressive hardware under its wing, one of the most notable things that distinguishes it from the higher tier phones is that it does not feature a dual core processor.

Specs

Instead it will be powered by a single core 1.5GHz processor with 512MB RAM this will provide plenty of oomph nonetheless. In terms of size, the Galaxy W is not petite but is certainly smaller than the Galaxy S2. It has a 3.7″ capacitive screen making it a little larger than the iPhone 4 in this department and offering some pretty impressive visuals for video and web browsing.

The Galaxy W also includes a 5 megapixel camera that includes 720p video recording and has a secondary VGA camera for video calls. It also has 32GB storage available with microSD, as well as excellent support for a wide range of music and video formats. Running on Android Gingerbread with TouchWiz, the Galaxy W comes with Android Market support, so there are plenty of apps and games to play around with, as well as having fantastic support for social networking and online entertainment with YouTube.

The Galaxy W series is being marketed as a high end device and if you compare it to the likes of the S2 this doesn’t seem to fit. It should be understood though that the Galaxy S2 is one of the most cutting edge smartphones on the market and this is an unfair comparison. The Galaxy W offers a lot of hardware power, the latest Android features and an excellent camera and for the majority of people will certainly feel like an award winning smartphone of the highest quality.

Samsung Galaxy W Price is Not announced yet, but it will be around $350 i.e. Rs. 17,000/-

With this new naming convention that Samsung is employing it is highly likely that we will see a Galaxy W2, Galaxy W Pro and perhaps even a Samsung Galaxy W3 Pro Plus or something equally convoluted in the distant future. Regardless, Samsung Galaxy W contracts will provide any people to obtain a high class Android Galaxy experience at a much more affordable price than Samsung’s current flagship, the S2. Both phones can be purchased by comparing the cheap mobile phone deals at best-mobile-contracts.co.uk.

Here are latest happenings:

Asus Padfone

It’s a smartphone, it’s a tablet, it’s a Padfone? Asus announced on Monday a new smartphone-tablet combo that features an Android handset with a tablet shell that turns the phone into a one-panel slate.

Asus eee PC X101 MeeGo Netbook

As if the Padfone and the MeMO 3D weren’t enough, Asus also announced a new Eee PC netbook that runs the MeeGo mobile OS, the eee PC X101 (shown here). MeeGo is a Linux-based open source project that merged Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo projects.

The Ultraportable PC Is Now the Ultrabook?

Intel wants to rebrand the ultraportable PC as the Ultrabook, promising laptops that are less than 0.8-inches thick, have longer battery life and are priced under $1000. One of the first Ultrabooks to hit the market will be Asus’ 11.6-inch, 2.4-pound UX21 later in 2011. The first round of Ultrabooks will be followed by laptops in early 2012 with Ivy Bridge-based processors, followed by third-generation Core processors in 2013.

Viewsonic Tablet

If a dual-boot Windows 7-MeeGo netbook from Asus doesn’t grab you, how about a dual-OS Windows 7-Android Froyo tablet? ViewSonic showed off the ViewPad 10Pro, powered by Intel’s new Oak Trail Atom Z670 1.5 GHz processor. The device runs Windows 7 natively and runs a virtualized version of Android. The device features 32GB of onboard storage, 3G connectivity, and 1080p video playback. The 10Pro will go on sale in June in Taiwan and will be priced between $700 and $800.

Kal-El landed in a tablet at Computex, and no I’m not talking about Superman, but the quad-core Nvidia Tegra chip for tablet devices. Nvidia at Computex showed a prototype tablet with a quad-core processor and 12-core GPU. Nvidia wasn’t talking specs, but claimed the device was rendering a simple game called MadFinger in real time at more than 30 frames per second, according to IDG News Service.

Nvidia Budget Wired 3D Glasses

Hoping to encourage more people to embrace 3D viewing at home, Nvidia also announced a new pair of wired 3D Vision active-shutter glasses for $100. Battery-powered active shutter glasses from Nvidia typically cost about $150. Nvidia says the new glasses support more than 65 different monitors, laptops, and projectors powered by Nvidia’s 3D graphics processors. Nvidia’s wired glasses include a 10-foot USB cable, do not require batteries, and will be available in late June.

Intel Goes Tablet Crazy; Hits the ‘Oak Trail’

Not wanting to lose the tablet market to ARM-based processors, Intel is showing off a slew of “Oak Trail” Atom Z670-based tablets at Computex from manufacturers such as Fujitsu, Lenovo, MSI, and Toshiba. The tablets were running either Windows 7 or Android Honeycomb. Acer is rumored to be coming out with an Oak Trail Honeycomb tablet in July.

Gigabyte S1080 Windows 7 Tablet

Announced in January, Gigabyte is showing off its 1.97 pound, S1080 Windows 7 tablet. The device features a 10.1-inch 1024-pixel by 600-pixel capacitive multitouch display. The tablet also sports an Atom N550 dual-core processor, a 320GB hard drive, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0, and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. The S1080 will hit the U.S. this June, according to Engadget.

LG V300 All-In-One PC

LG announced its first all-in-one PC during Computex, which it calls the LG V300. The top configuration of this all-in-one PC includes a Core i7 processor, a 750GB hard drive, 8GB of RAM, a Blu-ray player, and a 23-inch multitouch 3D LED display, according to Engadget. LG did not announce a U.S. launch date.

MSI Announces Thin-And-Light Laptops and Tablets

MSI is showing new X-Slim laptops at Computex that are less than an inch thick, contain the latest Intel and AMD processors, and offer over eight hours of battery life. It is also showing new tablets running Windows or Android at the Taipei trade show.

SanDisk SSD

SanDisk has two new solid-state drive lines for tablets, laptops and other mobile devices. The new U100 drives for laptops are available in sizes from 8GB to 256GB. The SSDs use a SATA III interface that allows them to transfer data about twice as fast as their SanDisk P4 predecessors. Asus is using the U100 drives in its UX series Intel Core-based Ultrabooks. SanDisk’s new iSSDs are geared for tablets and available in sizes from 8GB to 128GB. The new i100 drive is the world’s smallest SSD with 128GB capacity, according to the company.

Chrome OS Moves To Taipei

If you don’t think Google is serious about pushing laptops loaded with its web-centric Chrome OS, think again. The search giant announced during Computex that it was opening a software engineering center in Taipei to work closely with Asian laptop makers on computers running Chrome OS, according to IDG News Service. Taiwan is home to companies such as Foxconn, Quanta and Compal that make hardware components for major computer companies such as Apple, Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Taiwan is also home to Asus and Acer.

ARM Servers

ARM Holdings President Tudor Brown (shown here) said Monday that several companies including Nvidia, Marvell, and Calxeda were working on ARM-based servers. But, according to IDG News Service, you shouldn’t expect to see them hit the market in large numbers until 2015. The next version of ARM’s Cortex architecture will support virtualization and 64-bit software–two essential stepping-stones on the way to an ARM-based server lineup.
